I am so excited to share a peek into MJD’s 30th birthday party with you!
Last weekend I hosted several of our family and friends to celebrate my hubby’s 30th birthday. I love entertaining and getting together with friends is always at the top of MJD’s list- so it’s no surprise that a 30th birthday party for him would be super fun! When I started planning the party, I knew I wanted it to be quintessential MJD. The party would be casual, but fun, with some special twists to make things interesting.
My first order of business was picking a venue. I looked around at a few venues in Boston before settling on the perfect one, Coppersmith. The exposed brick inside, amazing beer list and tons of natural light pouring through the windows made it a winner for me. It’s the perfect place for a guy’s party in Boston. Courtney who is charge of events there was so nice throughout the entire process- I really can’t recommend working with her enough. Besides the awesome vibe of the venue and the beer selection, food was important to me and with her help, we created a snack menu all the party guests were raving about. My personal favorite was the chicken & waffles- adorable pieces of fried chicken on a yummy waffle and drizzled with syrup, all on a skewer to eat hands free.
I didn’t want to go full-on “theme” for the party, but I did want it to seem like the details went together. Because of the exposed brick and rustic industrial tables at Coppersmith, I knew going the rustic burlap route would work. Then all I had to do was add in MJD’s favorite thing, beer (after me of course ;)) and the party vibe was set.
To get the party started, I used a beer-themed invite from Paperless Post (seen above). After a quick Etsy browse, I found the amazing creations of Rustic Daisy Designs including the perfect burlap and beer banner which I knew would be the focal point of the party. From there, I added a few easy touches with a burlap runner and chalkboard signs, thanks to Michael’s and World Market. While it may have been a guy’s guy kind of party, one simple touch of flowers (aren’t hydrangeas the best?) in a mason jar pulled together the whole look!
The most important thing when planning a birthday party is of course the dessert! I wanted something truly different for this and instantly thought of my friends over at Blackbird Doughnuts. Not only are their doughnuts a treat MJD and I love, but it’s so much fun to have something a bit more creative for dessert. Blackbird Doughnut’s mini doughnuts were the literal hit of the party! People could barely wait until MJD blew out his candles to grab them for themselves.
If anyone deserves to have a great birthday party, it’s my hubby! And I am so glad we had a fun time celebrating- not that I had any doubts about that. As with planning for any party, I find that things always go more smoothly when you have help. So wanted to make sure I shared a little thank you to my sister, mom and mother-in-law, who are the best!
Until next time… Cheers and happy party planning!
